Drunk driver offers police a dead fish
By Tara Ravens, AAP

A man allegedly offered police a dead fish when they pulled him over for drink-driving in Darwin.
The 44-year-old attracted the attention of staff at a suburban service station where he appeared wobbly on his feet as he got out of his car.
The staff contacted police who arrived, allegedly just as the man was driving out of the station.
Police said that when they pulled the driver over, he reached into his car and produced a dead fish which he offered to the officers.
“I’m told it was a saratoga, not a very good one either, only about 30 centimetres long apparently,” said Duty Superintendent Rob Farmer.
NT police said in a statement that the “members politely declined it”.
Their amusement stopped there. The man is alleged to have registered an alcohol reading of 0.235 per cent. He was charged with high-range drink-driving.
Meanwhile, Supt Farmer said he was unsure of the fish’s fate.
“As far as I know, it’s still with the car now,” he told ABC Radio in Darwin, where daytime temperatures regular reach around 32 degrees celsius.
“I don’t know whether there were other people there who may have been able to take care of the fish or whether he’s going to have a surprise in his vehicle when he gets back to it.”
The man will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on Thursday.
